The strongest man of the Netherlands 2010 (6 times champion) becomes a Gorilla Wear athlete.
Jarno is born in the city Hengelo. In the east of Holland. And he since his 2nd year he lives in Vroomshoop.
He has his strongman genes from his father Theo. His dad is a massive 1.98mtrs tall and 165kg heavy. He was in his younger years a very good regional judo and jujitsu champion.
Jarno started training in 1994. In the gym of Marcel Mostert (coach from Berend Veneberg) and made very good progress in his basic strenght. He was invited for The Strongest Man of the East of Holland 1996. And finished in his first Strongman competition on a very good 3rd place.
In August 1997 jarno started strongman training with now 7 times strongest man of Holland Berend Veneberg. So he had the best teacher in Holland he could find. And with good result, He finished in 2nd place in the qualification for the final of The Strongest Man of Holland 1998.
In 1998 due to tv problems there was no Strongest Man of Holland competition. But he competed together with Gait Gerrits in the World Strongest Team competition 1998. They finished on a very good 6th place. This competition was won by Berend Veneberg and Wout Zylstra.
In 1999 he finished in his fisrt National Championship on a very good 3rd place. The title Strongest Man of Holland went to Berend Veneberg and Peter Baltus became second.
In 2000 he started very well. With an impressive win in his hometown. At the semy-final for the millenium title. The final was a little disapointing with a 4th place.
2001 was a good year with a 2nd place at the final of The Strongest Man of Holland. Behind new champion Wout Zylstra. Together with Wout they did very good in 2 international competitions. two 3rd places in competitions for the World Srongest Team and the Strongest Team Olympics (19 teams)
2002 Jarno and Wout finished 2nd in Europe Strongest Team. But in this competition Jarno injured his right shoulder. And this one week before the Dutch final. He still managed to finish 3rd behind Berend Veneberg and Sjaak Ruska.
2003 Jarno proved his star was rising. Jarno finished 3rd in the International Grand Prix of Holland. Behind World champion Mariusz Pudzianowski and Arnold Classic winner Zydrunas Savickas. The national final was a clash between Jarno and Peter Baltus. Jarno won 4 out of 7 events. Peter won the competition with only 0.5 points differance.
2004 started very well with a new national record on the loglift 170kg.
Jarno got injured in this competition. And could not compete in The Dutch Grand Prix.
Two weeks before the Dutch Final Jarno competed with Sjaak Ruska and German champion Heinz Ollesh in the Intercontinental Cup. They started very well but on the 3rd event Jarno injured his calve. A whiplash seemed to ruine Jarno's chances for the National title. But two weeks later with his calve taped, he made his dream come true. Finally he was The Strongest Man Of The Netherlands!!
2005 Started with a win in The Spanish Grand Prix. His good friend and trainings partner Edwin Hakvoort Finished on a very good 3rd place.
A very good 2nd place in The Dutch Grand Prix proved he was in shape to become The Strongest Man of West Europe 2005. And he did.
The Strongest Man of Holland 2005 was his next title. With an impressive 7 wins out of 7 events. He proved his forme.
At the World Open in Sau Paulo Jarno pervormed very well. With 7reps on the Deadlift, 320kg on repetition and finishing the 30mtrs Super Yoke with 410kg!! within 24sec. In the end he only came a few points short for a place in the final for the title of World Strongest Man
2006 After a knee surgery in Nov.2005. Jarno has started training together with his trainings partners in februari of this year. Training is going well and some events are going already better than last year. He is hopefull that it is going to be a very good season. The first couple of months should be soon forgotten. After a bad inflamation in my jaw. And 2 severe brused ribs in April. Things were going finally my way. A third place in the Dutch Grand Prix. was a good warm up for the nationals. After winning the first 6 of 7 events on july 8th, the title was mine again. 2 weeks later Edwin Hakvoort and me went to Hungary for the World Strongest Team 2006. Before we started the competition we figured a place in top 3 was possible. We started very well, with a 2nd place on the Stones of Strenght.
After 4 second places we were leading. And after a 3 place on the Powestairs we won the competion! We are The World Strongest Team 2006!!
Jarno is now preparing for The World Strongest Man in November in Yceland.
